What Power Feels Like
You are standing, tall and strong
While countless others remain behind
But they dare not join, 'cause if they do
They'd receive all the abuse they can find.
That's what power feels like.
People lick your shoes and pray
That you won't do them wrongs,
The one who refuses to follow is thrown
Crumpling at your feet where he belongs.
That's what power feels like.
There's always someone to share the blame
Someone to own up for your fault
'Cause should you choose to lift your pen
Their careers can come to a halt.
That's what power feels like.
You are respected by all your equals
And simply revered by all the rest
You are even glanced gratefully at
By the person sitting behind the desk.
That's what power feels like.
You come back home, remove your suit,
You may lean back and shed a tear.
For desperately though you wish to be loved
There's no mistaking that look of fear.
That's what power feels like.
Oh, a funny temptress, that power is,
It strengthens the brave and the bold
It arms the ones who love to be bad
It makes the weak ones' feet go cold.
But, thank goodness, to the stainless mind
It serves loyally for all eternity,
For to that mind it is but a ship for
A voyage through endless opportunity.
And that is what power feels like.
